How To Cope With Pain

If you have a chronic illness (or even if you live in pain on the daily) even if it isn't endometriosis you know that pain can be hard to handle especially when it is recurring and nothing seems to help so here is a list of five ways to cope with endometriosis pain, leave in the comments what you use to deal with your pain.

now I want to start by saying pain killers but that is a lie, well for me at least. my pain killers don't work sadly and all they do is put me to sleep which I guess can be a good thing because I get very little sleep when I am in pain.

tens machine: A transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENSunit is a device that sends small electrical currents to targeted body parts. These currents are used to relieve pain. I find this helpful because It distracts my mind enough that the pain numbs a tad so it isn't so intense.

weighted blanket: I love my weighted blanket, it is exactly that a blanket that is weighted. they are meant to help with anxiety but I found it helps with my pain much more.

heat pack: I have three kinds of heat packs and I find all of them work the same. I have ones that you put in teddybears which holds the heat longer, I have the kind you can either put in the freezer as an icepack or put in the microwave as a heat pack and I have just a plan heat pack. all work wonders, I find the last two don't hold heat as long which kind of sucks but heat is a major help for me with relieving pain.

baths: I don't have a bath anymore but when I did I used to live in it because of pain, hot water and bubbles or some oils to make it relaxing and it worked wonders for me, I was relaxed, warm and there was heat to deal with the pain, listening to music or even reading was amazing at this point.

electric blanket: now a lot of people are used to electric blankets being what you put on top of your mattress for winter to keep warm, those never really did anything for me because I need the heat on my back and my front to help with the pain. what this is, this is almost a throw blanket that you plugin, and you can curl up with it in bed or even on the couch as long as you can access a PowerPoint you are good to go.

Resources to learn more about Endometriosis

While my book on endometriosis is finally in the editing stages, it has a while until it will be ready to be published. Still, I got to thinking about what resources there are now about endo, not only from a medical standpoint but also from a sufferers point of view. I found books for sale as well as other blog posts, which was amazing to see how much there is out there. Still, it got me thinking, people who don't know what they are looking for might never find any of these resources, so I thought I would make a blog post detailing what each resource is about and the link to that resource as well as ways you yourself can find information.  Disclaimer: Podcasts will not be involved in this post, but I do have a post on my blog from May 2021 all about endometriosis podcasts if that's what you are looking for.  So how do you find resources? The easiest way to find resources in your area would be to search up online Endometriosis and your area. Example. Endometriosis San Diego...

Risk factors for having endo

Something I’m asked a lot is does having Endometroisis put me at risk? And in todays blog post I want to talk about it.  Although ovarian cancer occurs at higher rates in women with endometriosis,  the overall lifetime risk is low to begin with . Some studies suggest that endometriosis increases that risk, but it's still relatively low. Endometriosis can cause uterine tissue to grow in the intestines in anywhere from  3 to 37 percent of women Trusted Source  with the condition. In rare cases, the tissue can cause bleeding and scarring that leads to  intestinal obstruction (blockage of the intestine). A small bowel obstruction can cause symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, and problems passing gas or stool. If left untreated, a bowel obstruction can cause pressure to build up, possibly resulting in a bowel perforation (a hole in the bowel). A blockage can also decrease blood supply to the intestines. Both can be fatal. Ectopic pregnancy An  ectopic ...
